Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Simeon M — 25 Feb 2011
This felt like watching a movies from the badguys perspective. I know Clint Eastwoods intention was to humanize the Japanese soldiers, which he greatly succeeds at. These soldiers were lied to, under-supplied, and misled throughout this conflict. But Clint Eastwood held back, deciding not to portray the Japanese torturing American POW's and even eating them. It could've been much more brutal than it was, but the end result is a stirring and memorable film.
I definitely recommend this to anyone interested in checking out the Japanese side of the conflict.
