Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Sumit S — 09 Mar 2013
The second film of the Clint Eastwood's Iwo Jima saga shows the same war seen in Flags of Our Fathers but this time from the perspective of Japanese soldiers without disrespecting them. The strength of this film is that it doesn't try to show any of the two countries in bad light but simply tells the tale of humans in war dedicated to protecting & dying for their countries.
Improved direction, cinematography as good as its companion piece & with Ken Watanabe's brilliant performance, Letters from Iwo Jima is a finely detailed account of patriotism of Japanese soldiers, depicted in same respect & amount as Flags of Our Fathers.
