The better film of Eastwood's two-parter Iwo Jima saga, the masterfully tense "Letters from Iwo Jima" captures the isolation and idolatry of a group of men devoted to a cause until death.
Sometimes elegant and elegiac, other times nauseating and claustrophobic, it's an impressive war film but not one that is particularly memorable.
