"Let's Scare Jessica to Death" is a bizarre treasure from the early 70's... Hippie horror and the redoubtable Zohra Lampert make this one a real secret pleasure. Miss Lampert was a very naturalistic actress, somewhat in the style of Sandy Dennis, and she brings an exquisite fragility to the role of a woman on the verge of madness. After release from an institution, she is brought by her husband to a creepy old house in a remote part of Connecticut. A friend joins them to help work the orchards, a hippie child vagabond shows up, and shortly thereafter, so do a string of weird visions and progressively wacky townsfolk. Is her husband the straight arrow he seems? What's lies under the water of the lake? Why is that chair rocking with nobody in it? Oh Jessica, run while you can!

Worth seeing for Miss Lampert's performance alone, but good scary fun also.
