Review of Let's Go to Prison (2006) by Jeff G — 21 Sep 2008
This Film has it's moments and a great premise but each time the film looks like it has a great set-up. It's like you can feel the humor slowly leaving the room. Plus this film has great lighting it has to be the brightest movie I have ever seen.
The problem I think is maybe the leads should have switched places. will Arnett is hilarious but he is miscast he is best at playing smarmy antagonistic characters as a straight man he is weak and looks uncomfortable. Dax Shepherd is not my favorite performer but he has the better role and does what he can with it. He looks the part of his character white trash and all. In some scenes he is spot on but not all that winning.
The Suppoerting Characters do produce a laugh here and there but I even felt this film could have been a little more thought out and cutting edge especially it was directed by bob odenkirk of "Saturday Night Live" and "Mr. Show" Fame a comedian known for pushing the envelope. Just like the writers Michael Patrick Jann, Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant The Masterminds Behind "Reno 911" this film needed more well thought out gross humor less gross humor that is there for no reason then just to be nasty.
Wait for it on cable.
