Review of Let's Be Cops (2014) by Mark W — 31 Jan 2015
While this film could be the amalgamation of many old police comedies including Police Academy, it most closely resembles pieces of Beverly Hills Cop, Paul Blart : Mall Cop, and Bad Boys all shoveled together, fried, and then served up for a Saturday night of mindless fun for the masses.
Wayans Jr. continues the tradition of is seniors as the essential straight man to contrast his wild partner's escapades. Jake M. Johnson's character keeps the early third of the film interesting and mildly amusing.
Sometime later though, the film lags, becomes more serious, and then finishes out on a positive high note. This film is thin, far from cerebral, and allows you to take bathroom breaks without missing too much.
Good for a weekend night out before tossing.
