Review of Let's Be Cops (2014) by Dawdlingpoet — 27 Nov 2021
I'm not keen on stoner/sex based comedies, so this didn't appeal to me but I read a review on IMDB that claimed it wasn't as bad as those types of films tend to be and that its more of a generic buddy cop film with visual, slapstick comedy. Having seen it, I agree that its better than other films I've seen but its far from a memorable film as such. I found it quite watchable and fairly entertaining - there are some plot twists which are quite amusing and some decent action scenes.
There is, of course(!), elements of sexism which I didn't especially like but then that was to be expected I suppose...its not as awful as White Chicks but its not brilliant either - distinctly average or maybe slightly better than average at best, I'd say. For what its worth, I thought the two main characters, Ryan and Justin, gave fairly decent performances and the way they interact with one another was humorous, just obviously don't expect anything too clever from this film (why would you anyway, if you know who it stars (one of the Wayans for example)?). The plot is daft, there are cheesy moments but for the most part its an easy and somewhat entertaining watch, so it didn't entirely bother me. For what it is, its alright but I wouldn't go out of your way to see it. This type of film (a buddy cop film) has been done hundreds of times before - perhaps not with the exact same plot, there is the obvious twist to this one which made it somewhat more interesting.
