Review of Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) by Benedick L — 22 Oct 2009
When I first saw this film, I was amazed by the car chase in it. This sort of distracted me from the rest of the film. Now older and wiser, the film doesn't entertain as much anymore. In fact, some of it is quite racist if taken the wrong way.
Can't fault Mel Gibson though. He's great in it and as charismatic as ever. Danny Glover is a great straight guy who supports Gibson well. Pesci, well, he's good in it. Little bit annoying with Chris Rock as well but doesn't really spoil the film enough for me.
I think the film falters with the fact it feels more like a reunion then part of the lethal weapon quadrilogy but it doesn't come unwelcomed. 11 years on and pondering whether a lethal weapon 5 is in the mix becomes more and more unlikely.
See this if you like Mel Gibson and nostalgic action movies (like me - they don't make them like this any more).
