Review of Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) by Jim W — 23 Jan 2010
I don't know why it's the only one Newsday gave ***1/2. It's goofier with less heartfelt drama that the previous films had. Compare when Murtaugh accidently shot a teenager in part 3 to Joe Pesci's story about accidently running over his pet frog Froggy. His story is a little touching but it's still sad that it's the most emotion you get from the movie.
The script just is garbage compared to the script to the previous films. Plus the cast is having so much fun together in one last film.....that they never shut-up. I mean, Glover and Gibson are just hyper yelling their lines to each other through most of the movie.
Still, I've seen more disappointing sequels since Lethal Weapon 4. I am now more annoyed by films like X-Men: United and Spider-Man 3. I honestly enjoyed Lethal Weapon 4 more recently due to accepting that it actually is very funny, especially the dentist scene. Lethal Weapon 4 isn't as good as the previous films but it's at least an entertaining mess, which can't be said for a 4th film like Batman & Robin, which was just a mess without the entertainment.
