Review of Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) by Johnny T — 03 Sep 2011
One could argue about which "Lethal Weapon'' is the best, but No. 4 is the funniest, warmest and most idiosyncratic. The characters remain funny and likable, and they all live on Earth. The quintessence of the buddy cop pic, "LW4" is big on action, playful banter and just enough plot to keep our attention from wandering. Pardon me for having groaned in anticipation of what, in the full perspective-warping heat of the summer movie season, turns out to be one of the nicer blow-'em-ups around. The action is still brilliant despite the fact that the actors are getting older. There is another superb blend of comedy and action. The comedy never gets bland and there are tons of great stunts. The story is decent for a fourth film and the overall execution is brilliant.
VERDICT: "Full Price" - Second highest rating in the system (Positive to Mixed reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theater to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent.
