Review of Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) by David G — 28 May 2013
Given that the series was 11 years old by this point and the principal cast not quite so fresh faced anymore this is a surprisingly good addition to the franchise. Gone is the mullet and youthful vigor from ol' Mel but that doesn't make him any less enthusiastic or effective as Riggs, who's age is cleverly integrated into the story as is his imminent fatherhood and will-he-won't-he marriage to Rene Russo's Lorna.
It completes a fascinating character arc from the quite different Riggs we met in the first film. The villains - including Jet Li making his western debut - are a step up from the bland LW3 lot but we do have to suffer Chris Rock who's basically playing himself.
The action is still impressive including the awesome freeway chase and all in all it's safe to say the series signed off in style, since it appears the chances of a part 5 are sadly slim to none.
