Review of Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) by Paul P — 30 Sep 2008

Much better than Lethal Weapon 3, Lethal 4 sends the series at least 70% back to what worked best in the phenomenal second film. It's fast, furious, intense, and incredibly violent. That Shane Black darkness and edge is still largely missing, in its place an exuberant amount of humor, but what works? The action and the villains are right back to form.

Jet Li here is creepily evil in ways that to justice to the likes of Gary Busey from the first, David Warner and Joss Ackland from the second. It's nowhere near as great as the first and far from as solid as the second, but the return of great villains, a far less preachy plot, and superior action make this the better sequel.

The final fight with Jet Li is incredible.
