Review of Lethal Weapon 3 (1992) by Paul Z — 17 Apr 2012
The script is tailored to Gibson's irrepressible Kaufmanesque prankster. He and Glover's patter is perhaps too smooth at this point. Pesci's Leo has taken a funny turn, but he's no more than a minimally necessary tension release.
Stuart Wilson is by far the pettiest villain in the series, no more than a dirty cop with a quip to act as eulogy for every incompetent thug he wastes. Still, unexpected dramatic turns, a fresh new series regular, a brilliant scene of impromptu strip poker and a sensational wrong-way chase down an expressway between two armored trucks set the film apart from the genre's assembly line.
