Review of Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) by Shaun M — 27 Mar 2009
This film really had that "Wow" factor to me for such a long time. As most people will often get into debates about which is the better film of the franchise. I feel that this film nearly passes the first one in story as well as scope.
From the enhanced scale of the set pieces such as the car chase and chopper shootout, to the resolution to "Martin Riggs" plight from the first film. This simply has nearly all that I look for in a film such as this.
At times there are bits of overabundance with the action. But considering the decade, I think this film still handles things quite well.
If there are any negatives to give, I'd say it comes with the mostly unnecessary scenes that were added to the "Director's Cut" that I watched. As well as the occasional annoyance of Joe Pesci's "Leo Getz".
Aside from those things and considering how high the bar was raised, I think the franchise peaked with this film. As from here on out, things seemed to nose dive.
This film gets five stars in my book, considering how much more well balanced everything seems to be this time around. And even watching it today, the film doesn't seem all that dated to me. It's still a worthy look for those that love this type of genre. Or especially for those that love a nice revenge flick. As this definitely goes that route much later in the film.
