Review of Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) by Mike L — 05 Sep 2009
My personal favorite of the series. I liked the villains (South Africans) as they were particularly ruthless plus we get the add benefit of Riggs past. I especially like Patsy Kensit as Rika, the South African consulates secretary. She develops a relationship with Riggs, much to her employers chagrin, and at the half way point of the movie, the series takes a very serious and depraved departure when Rika is killed. It is a sad and unexpected but fitting and works as an impetus for the audiences hatred toward the South Africans. The ending leaves us very satisfied as it feels like we were the ones to hit the final button.
Fortunately the Pesci character, while funny, is limited in screen time, which is a good thing.
Overall a great action movie with social commentary that while important to the movie is kept as a plot point and not a message.
