Review of Lethal Weapon (1987) by Larry G — 27 Jun 2010
A classic! Pure 80s gold in every way. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are two very different cops who team up to take down a shady covert operation that doesn't want anyone to know about their drug deals.
The characters are funny, likable and realistic, and also surprisingly well shaded, with Gibson's suicidal tendency being really well written. Every second of this is compulsively watchable. When things get more personal, the movie gets darker and more sinister, but not without careening back for one of the best fight scenes you'll ever see.
There's NO reason for it - they could have easily arrested the bad guy right there - but Gibson felt like laying a personal smackdown on him, and so we get this. What a great film.
