Review of Lethal Weapon (1987) by Kevin M — 27 Feb 2012

I've been catching on my iconic-movies-with guys-shooting-each-other list, and got to this last night.

Here's my take-away: for various reasons, I like Danny Glover as a human being more than Mel Gibson in 2012. But boy, as an actor, Glover is like a high school kid. Someone told him that the way you display anger, and the only way, is to yell, and he took it to heart: it's the only tool in his "express anger" bag.

And Gibson. Gosh Mel, you're such an anti-semitic, angry large man in real life, but in this dumb-albeit-entertaining movie, you sure did do a lot with a silly part. You made me believe your depression, your angst, and the high you get when having societal permission to act violently: you're a good actor.

If you haven't gotten to it, there are better options. But it's a perfectly competent shoot-em-up with a dumb plot filled with holes begging plugging by semi-trucks.

Bang.
