Review of Lethal Weapon (1987) by Bryan P — 29 Dec 2013
I had forgotten what a great movie this is and I really enjoyed watching it again. It's aged pretty well too except for maybe the annoying score of saxophone music and Mel's hair. Well there is that scene with the giant portable phone. Anyways, this is how buddy-cop movies are meant to be; great chemistry between our leads, humorous, without feeling forced, yet also dark and gritty with action scenes that didn't feel like they were just there for the sake of a cool stunt. This also managed to stay away from clichés and the prevalent 80's cheese factor and felt original all the way through. Just a great ride. I was also impressed with how tortured Mel's character 'Martin' is. You genuinely feel his loneliness and pain especially the scene at Christmas with his wife's photo and the hollow point bullet. On a lighter note his original hairstyle gets credited as "created by Ramsey" which made me laugh. 07.13 (3).
"A suicidal cop (Mel Gibson) and his common sense partner (Danny Glover) investigate a woman's plunge from a high rise and uncover a huge drug-smuggling operation. .".
