Review of Let the Right One In (2008) by Jordan V — 17 Feb 2012
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Might not be the right way to start a review but I had to say it. It's that damn good.
This is the story of an out of place boy who meets an even more out of place girl named Elli that moves in next door to him. After she makes it clear to him that they can't be friends, he becomes even more interested in his new neighbor and try's to form a friendship regardless of her previous advice. Eventually, they form an innocent love interest in one another, but the boy, Oskar, soon discovers Elli isn't exactly human.
If this sounds like Twilight, I don't disagree, but it pulls off the premise so much better. I actually felt their relationship blossom, and cared about each character. Elli is pure evil, and yet, she cares so much for Oskar, and you can feel it. It's something you have to watch to understand.
The whole movie is really well done, containing some genuine horror moments and some amazing set peices. The pool scene at the end still resignates in my brain.
This is a truly breath-taking movie worthy of your time. The remake is good, but watch this version first. It's much better. If you want a real vampire love story, or an actual good movie in general, watch it.
