Review of Let the Right One In (2008) by Jared S — 26 Oct 2013
I liked certain aspects of this movie, most notably the atmosphere, but I just don't see a point to it all. It was incredibly interesting, but not necessarily good which isn't a statement I often find myself making after seeing a movie.
As far as the story is concerned I just don't think the telling of it works. What is the motivation for the characters actions? It seems to me these characters (Oskar and Eli) just want to be left alone, one wants something they can't have and the other needs something they can't have. And...?
The antagonists aren't drawn out much. There's a lack of characterization in general throughout the film and I feel and there's not many dynamic elements that would serve at least some kind of purpose. Ultimately this all results in a film that is a little too sterile, but has some real potential.
