Review of Let the Right One In (2008) by Cody C — 31 Oct 2011
Just watched this after not seeing it since I saw it in theaters years and years ago. It holds up, but I don't think it's by any means a perfect movie. There's some stuff that's really irritating.
One thing that irked me last time around and irked me again is the kill in the woods that is very well lit, and we're supposed to suspend our disbelief about that. Also the CGI animals look like shit to me and still do.
Those two things take me out of the movie. But those are little things. Screenplay-wise, what bugs me is that the adults just aren't interesting. All the scenes with adults are bland and boring. Whereas any scene with kids is pretty great.
It's an uneven movie, but what it gets right it gets right. And I like the message, the questions it raises about love, etc.
