Review of Let the Right One In (2008) by Henry F — 26 Apr 2014
I'm yet to find a vampire movie that's as good as Let the Right One In, and looking at what vampires have now been turned into, I don't think I ever will. This is a story of a relationship between a troubled young boy and a vampire, told without needless violence or blood and guts flying around the screen, which seems to come hand in had with most modern vampire films (if they're not aimed at 12 year old girls). This, instead, is a rare type of horror that focuses more on the characters than the jump scares and gore; and this realism, to me, makes it even more sinister.
On top of this, it's brilliantly shot, written and acted, especially considering the two lead character were played by children. But, being a horror film, it has a few plot holes and flaws that can't be ignored, but can be forgiven if you take into account all the positives there are.
So despite the flaws, it all adds up to create the best vampire film I have ever seen, and is definitely up there with some of the best horrors, not because of how scary it is, but because of how emotionally engaging, different and well made it is. This is a very unique horror film.
