Review of Let the Church Say, Amen (2003) by Robin T — 13 Aug 2010
A documentary abut Rev. Perkins, the members of his congregation and the surrounding Wash. DC community as he struggles to do God's work. It shows the value of the inner city church to support the poor and disadvantaged souls who struggle to raise their children and find meaning in their lives.
That little building on the corner with the padlocked door, was the oasis, the anchor in these people's lives. It was played out in the story of the man whose son was stabbed to death. He turned to the church to deal with his fear, sorrow and anger.
It was difficult to watch knowing that with the current state of the economy I don't think things have improved considerably for these parishioners.
