Review of Let Me In (2010) by Jai G — 30 Oct 2012
Let Me In is actually a decent remake but even if it is competent there is no getting away from the fact that the original is superior and it was only release two years prior to this. Why then do we need a remake? Why cant people just watch the original? Are we really that bereft of ideas that we need to make an English language version of seemingly every foreign film that finds success? It's a sad indictment for the times we live in. Of course Hammer have made their fair share of reinterpretations and sequels in the past, so much so that they often stomped on familiar grounds to mixed levels of success.
Perhaps Let Me In is good enough to warrant judgement on its own merits. The greatest asset that it has going for it is the lead pairing of Moretz and McPhee who are engaging whenever they are on screen, which is most of the film. The problem is that the production, as good as it is, all feels too familiar and the only thing that Let Me In has made me want to do is go back and re-watch Let the Right One In.
