Review of Let Him Go (2020) by Moviemitch96 — 10 Nov 2020
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane star as grandparents hellbent on rescuing their grandson and daughter-in-law from their abusive family, going to drastic lengths to get them back. Having personally never been the biggest fan of Costner, I do enjoy neo-westerns quite a bit, so I ultimately decided to check it out.
And while it has some tense moments, the film proved to be a bit more of a slow burn than I anticipated. Things moved at a snail's pace for the most part for me. The acting from all involved also seemed a little stale to me.
Storywise, it felt like nothing I haven't already seen before, and despite a tense final act, it wasn't quite enough to justify the rest of the film or its pace for me, not to mention a resolution that felt a little forced.
Overall, Costner fans might appreciate and get a little more out of it than I did, but that still doesn't take into account the slow pace and straightforward and generic story.
