Review of Less Than Zero (1987) by Jim W — 01 Sep 2007
Requiem for a Dream is undoubtedly a better and more nightmarish vision of drug addiction, but this film is also an exceptional perspective on this issue. Strengthened by a great supporting cast in a young James Spader, Andrew McCarthy, and the gorgeous Jami Gertz, and Downey Jr.
excels at seeming like a realistic image of a brilliant young man in the throws of drug addiction (and has seemingly been playing this role in real life for a number of years).
