Review of Less Than Zero (1987) by Tedward B — 26 Jun 2008
From What I understand, this film is quite different from the novel on which it is based. This comes as no surprise, as Brett Easton Ellis' material is usually about as raw and rough as you can get.
The main difference, I'm told, is that the film focuses much more on Robert Downey Jr's character. He played it convincingly. Andrew McCarthy, I'm sorry to say, did not. The performances overall were weak, much like the writing (no fault of Brett Easton Ellis', I'm sure) but its heart was in the right place.
Not the greatest flick of 1987, but definitely worth checking out, if only for Downey Jr's (probably a little too true-to-life) early performance.
