Review of Less Than Zero (1987) by Jonathan M — 15 Jun 2010
I liked this movie as a crazy 80s time capsule (I think Bret Easton Ellis' debut novel has aged much better) that runs right into the major problem with adapting this to film: how do you make a character based movie when all the characters are these affect-less blanks in a totally nihilistic landscape? Turns out, even with a great performance by a very young Robert Downy Jr.
and James Spader, that it is more difficult than this film's director was capable of.
