Review of Less Than Zero (1987) by Will T — 11 Jun 2011
Less than Zero misses the point of the book which it is adapted from and is not the better for it. In the novel, Clay was slightly self destructive himself and is also more apathetic toward his fellow man (including Julian whom he seems to care deeply about in the movie).
The result is this cop out of a film. This may be hard to believe, but this movie is indeed a cop out adaptation of the book. Even though it tries to have the same disturbing punch, it wimps out by making the protagonist too humane.
Read the book. It's much better and truly hopeless.
