Review of Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009) by David L — 03 Aug 2010
"Lesbian Vampire Killers" is a surprisingly painless, slightly funny horror comedy. It's a british comedy, in the spirit of "Shaun Of The Dead" but not as funny. It's about two slackers, Fletch (James Corden) and Jimmy (Matthew Horne).
Fletch has just been fired from his job as a clown and Jimmy has been dumped for the 7th time by his scandalous girlfriend; deciding they need to take a break from it all, they take a trip to the country village, Cragwich.
Once they get there they meet up with a group of girls and join them for a weekend party in a secluded cabin however as night falls, the group is attacked by lesbian vampires who need Jimmy's blood in order to resurrect their queen Carmilla (Silvia Colloca).
The plot sounds like a bad porno and in the beginning, it looks like one but as the movie progresses it gets funnier. Unfortunately the movies jokes never get to the level of big laughs and instead you'll find yourself giggling at most of the jokes in the film.
The acting is adequate, with the exception of James Corden as Fletch, who stands out as the source of most of the films humor. I can't recommend "Lesbian Vampire Killers" simply because there are funnier comedies out there however it's not a bad film.
"Lesbian Vampire Killers" is a better movie than it's title may suggest and I predict it to be a hit at frat parties where viewers can ogle the gorgeous women and, if intoxicated, will find the some-what funny humor a lot funnier than it really is.
