Review of Les Misérables (2012) by Mmweiss — 03 Feb 2013
Self indulgent and pretentious. This defines pretty well what Tom Hooper´s Les Miserables is. The camera is always in the wrong place. The tight shots make the production design seem like a waste and the actors look bad, embracing their over-acting.
There is no dialogue, everything is sung, there is no silent moment and there is absolutely no subtlety. Everything is bad, nobody can really sing (especially Russel Crowe) and the performances are so weird and over the top.
The only thing that saves this movie from complete disaster is the beautiful production design. Definitely not a must-see.
