Review of Les Misérables (2012) by Phillip D — 07 Nov 2013
Once again trying far to hard to convince audiences at large that sing speech musical movies are a good idea, this film nose dives from the very beginning. Featuring an all star and all wrong cast consisting of Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe and Anne Hathaway, this movie can't escape Jackman's Wolverine stigma, Crowe's painful notes or Hathaway's shameless and lacking Oscar plea.
Featuring other painful extras that shouldn't be allowed to sing under any circumstances, the movie largely abandons the classic and well defined drama of previous editions and instead takes the viewer on an forcibly overly dramatic, grossly CGI'd, impossible to follow and painful to listen to journey that is truly the worst of Hollywood and Broadway.
Due to the terrible nature of the acting, all of the illogical or confusing portions of the book and movie that were artfully hidden in previous editions now come to inglorious light, leaving the audience pained, exhausted and hard of hearing.
This movie will not only make you hate musicals forever, it will ruin the book, previous movies as well as your opinions of three of Hollywood's top thespians.
