Review of Les Misérables (2012) by Vivak P — 28 Dec 2013
No matter how good a production can be, a movie needs good support by actors too. Jackman, Hathaway and the actors from the theatrical musical were good, but everyone else was a disaster. Russell Crowe's performance especially, was making me lose my patience and I ended up skipping his parts. The story generally was ok, if you don't count the random time-skips that confuses the people watching it (eg. Jackman's character transforming from a thief to a mayor in just a minute), random "comic" relief from Helena and Cohen (that played themselves again) and (spoiler alert) Santa Claus. The book itself is a masterpiece anyway, but since you have something so special to present, handle it with care...
PS: Do you wany extra cheese on your pizza? Just put a Les Miserables bluray disk on it. It will work.
PS #2: Four stars because the music was great (not the singing, the music) and Anne Hathaway's performance made me cry because it was phenomenal. Other than that it was a highly mediocre adaptation of a masterful classic.
PS3: I wonder, did all these close ups in everyone's face where done on purpose in order to avoid spending alot of money in good backgrounds, or are they an outcome of the director's lame cinematographic skills?
