Review of Les Misérables (2012) by Mehki B — 02 Jan 2014
Took my wife, for her birthday, and I have to say, "it was like TORTURE. Gawd, I'm not kidding" they sang, and not very well, "ALL" the dialogue. When you have a beautiful melody or a great voice, fine, sing your heart out, but, when it's just meandering notes, strung together, so the actors can 'sing' the dialogue, "No, Thank You".
I LOVE music, but, 'Dragging' out the dialogue, is NOT music and Russell Crowe is no Josh Groban. Anne Hathaway's performance was powerful, in the trailer her song was 'Very Moving', but "Less so" in the movie, because it was over done, they piled mishap upon misfortune and bad luck etc.
it became NUMBING and detracted from the 'raw emotion', making the scene less effective. Only a few of the actual songs are catchy, so I don't understand all the fuss. I did NOT think this was a masterpiece, but, my wife LOVED it.
