Review of Les Misérables (2012) by David D — 28 Feb 2014
With a powerful story (written by Victor Hugo) and musical (created by Cameron Mackintosh) brought to the screen for the first time in a new century, a good script written by William Nicholson full of fine musical dialogue set as lyrics filled with incredible songs, an amazing cast full of wonderful performances that include Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter and Samantha Barks as Eponine, perfect directing by Tom Hooper, spectacular scenes and sequences and a long but brilliant pace and flow, Les Miserables is a film that brings the spark of the musical show into a movie that is well done full of redemption, love and war.
