Review of Leprechaun (1993) by Ian B — 16 Sep 2008
One of the few examples of a horror franchise where the first entry is far from the best. It's hard to believe this little film has spawned five sequels and made a new horror icon out of its title character.
Never-the-less, the first Leprechaun is just damn boring! The minor things this movie has going for it are a few cheap laughs (and I mean few), a nice performance from Warwick Davis, and the chance to see Jennifer Aniston act in a really shitty horror film.
Watching it again for the first time in years I honestly couldn't believe how slow, cheap and boring it was! How did this things get released in theaters? Mark Jones has written a painfully awful script and has absolutely no idea how to use a camera.
His direction is completely flat and lifeless. I remembered liking this a lot more when I was 13. Thankfully things got a hell of a lot more fun in the first few sequels.
