Review of Leprechaun (1993) by Dylan D — 16 Mar 2013
There are moments of undeniable satirical genius, unintentional or not, but they're far too sparse in what's an otherwise boring film. It's more comedy than horror, which is fine, but it's not funny enough and sure isn't scary.
Too much of the film's appeal relies on the premise, which wears thin fast. The film gets points for having Francis from Pee Wee's Big Adventure play a lovable, mentally-ill oaf, but for little else.
It's often not a good idea to take your film too seriously, but Leprechaun has the opposite problem. It feels like an 80s horror film where nobody could commit.
