Review of Léon: The Professional (1994) by Tom J — 18 Sep 2012
It is not hard to see from Leon: The Professional, that 12-year-old Natalie Portman would have a great career ahead of her. She steals the movie as Mathilda, whose life experiences makes her older beyond her years.
Her family is all killed by wonderfully psychotic DEA agenda Stansfield (Gary Oldman). The best scene in the movie is when Mathilda, coming back from the grocer, realizes her family has been murdered and calmly walks next door to laconic hitman Leon's (Jean Reno) apartment, praying he will let her in rather than she be killed like the rest of her family.
The action surrounding Leon's kills is stylish, but it is the adopted father/daughter relationship between Leon and Mathilda that is the strength of the movie.
