Review of Léon: The Professional (1994) by Karen F — 16 Apr 2012
One of Besson's finest owes its brilliance in no small way to the three leads. Jean Reno is deadly yet endearing and innocent, Portman superb as the mature child of the piece and Oldman turns in one of his more eccentric and enjoyable performances as the cop on their tale.
Leon will never be as good on a second or third viewing, but the relationship that develops between the assassin and the orphan, the art-house French direction coupled with blistering New York action and the emotive and explosive ending demand a first. The definitive hitman movie.
