Review of Legion (2010) by Bence L — 01 Jul 2011

The character threatment is kindergarten bullcrap and though the cast is actually quite well arranged and more then potent to pull this thing off, the acting sucks for some reason most of the time and there are a few rather awful moments regarding that. Most of the dialog isn't too good either, so not like there would have been anything to work with. The story is very simple, the script is full of plot holes and a lot of stuff stays unexplained. Short: B movie. I'd guess the reason for all the hate here is due to the fact that it somehow got into theaters. If you like exclusively like B movies and know the genre, you will not care so much about all these things in this certain flick. On the other hand it has surprisingly good moments, like some of the action scenes but also the B movie specific monologues of Dutton and Bettany, which I found - though simple - very good as some other plain but effective lines. Around the last 30-40 the action gears up too and there is little space for complaints regarding that. I also need to emphasize the fact how good this movie looks, meaning not just the CGI, but the professional cinematography too. So come on, it's 2010, we've all seen a lot of trailers. This is no Ridley Scott movie, really. Enter having no expectations and suddenly find yourself having a lot of fun.

Tegarding the infamous "controversy". Legion plays in Lalalala-land, where god has a fortress in the sky where he lives with his angels, who are tattooed sword fighters. For all the good christians out there, who are not up to the task, to distinguish fantasy from reality, please leave it free for other people to do so. This reminds me of the story of the lady microwaving the cat and then suing the manufacturer because it died. Though I do not deny the capability of the microwave oven to dry cats.
