Review of Legion (2010) by Austin L — 07 Feb 2013
This isn't high art, but it's a decent enough b-movie rental, or the sort of thing you settle for if channel surfing late one night. Bettany makes good as an action hero, it's a shame he doesn't have more to do- he's a talented fellow.
Solid support from reliable high concept alumni Quaid and Dutton fleshes things out a bit, though the film is light on plot- never really expanding on its premise- there is some claustrophobic action horror to enjoy, though it often strays into a laughable misstep (the little blonde boy is ridiculous).
There was potential for this to be a lot more, but I suspect it was never intended to pose deep philosophical questions. I hear a TV show is in the works; there's definitely scope for it. Sometimes you just need to lighten up and accept things for what they are- high concept nonsense, doing what it can with a clearly limited budget.
