Review of Legends of the Fall (1994) by Jake C — 03 May 2012
Although not perfect, Legends of the Fall is a pleasing mix of melodrama, action, and humor. Many of the lines and scenes have become cliche, but a few still stand out as stunning and unforgettable. Who can forget the scene in which Brad Pitt rides into the military camp after killing and scalping German troops on his own, his hair down, covered in blood and dirt, while his fellow infantrymen just look on in shock.
Although I'm not sure if it is the kind of movie I would watch again and again, it is difficult to dislike a movie that reaches so far to please its audience. Edward Zwick has proven himself a director who can straddle the line between box office hit and artistic vision. For a more impressive example of this, see Blood Diamond.
