Review of Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (2014) by Peter H — 22 Dec 2012
The ruby slippers are exclusive to the 1939 MGM musical and the movie "Return to Oz." The shoes in the original L. Frank Baum book are silver, but you won't be seeing them in this film as it purports to be about Dorothy returning to Oz (which, in the books, she did many times before settling there permanently), which means the shoes are long gone.
And to those of you who are screaming for Tim Burton to be involved in an Oz-based thing, he already has been; he was on the crew for an Australian telefilm called "Lost in Oz.".
Also, the MGM movie has its place, but if you've really read the Oz books, or only the first one, you'll know that while it's a brilliant movie, it's really not Oz, and Judy Garland's Dorothy Gale, while delightful and lovable, is frankly a bit of a wimp compared to Baum's Princess Dorothy of Oz.
