Review of Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (2014) by Dann M — 30 Sep 2014
Based on a children's book written by the great-grandson of L. Frank Baum, Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return is a whimsical fantasy adventure. When the Land of Oz is threatened by the Wicked Witch's brother, the Jester, the Scarecrow, Lion, and Tin Man attempts to bring Dorothy back in order to help them.
With an all-star cast that includes Lea Michele, Dan Aykroyd, James Belushi, Kelsey Grammer, and Martin Short, the voice performances are pretty good. And, the musical numbers are fun and exciting, featuring songs written by Bryan Adams.
The animation however, is rather poor; particularly the character movements. The script is also problematic, with a weak B story dealing with the Tornado aftermath in Kansas. Yet despite its issues, Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return has a bit of magic and is an enjoyable family film.
