Review of Legendary (2010) by Thomas W — 03 Jan 2011
Perhaps the best movie to come from the WWE film brand; but that isn't saying a whole lot. The casting of Patricia Clarkson (The Green Mile, Pieces of April, Far From Heaven) gives the film some prestige it doesn't merit; but it is watchable at least.
The film looks and feels shoddily made with clunky dialogue and generic acting from the rest of the cast. WWE wrestler John Cena (The Marine) might do his best work here ... but ... take that with a grain of salt.
This is supposed to be a high school sports-uplifting kind of a film; but it feels so worn and looks plastic that I couldn't appreciate it. Oklahoma-twang has never been as grating as it is in this film (check out Luly's accent!) and it is simply another version of Hollywood getting small-town life pretty wrong.
This isn't legendary at all ...
