Review of Legendary (2010) by Robert C — 17 Jan 2011
This is the best movie WWE films has released. Young Devon Graye and Patricia Clarkson are everything that works about this film. I think it was smart to have Cena's role (and acting) down-played, because when he does show up on screen, it feels more meaningful. The story is simple and predictable, but its also earnest and touching.
There are interesting bits of fan service, like the rock-metal soundtrack, and a gratuitous entrance show at the end, but most fascinating was the illusion of making Cena actually seem like some wise wrestling guru. Speaking of, Danny Glover makes the film hammier than it needs to be, the girlfriend is weird, and there are a couple of bar fights that I don't even think the movie needs (thrown in for the sake of action?) but as family dramas go, this is more than acceptable.
