Review of Legend (2015) by Luis A — 19 Jan 2016
The dual-role challenge is one which Tom Hardy accomplishes with his solid reputation remaining intact. However, while we have an intriguing performance as the morally complex Reggie Kray, the hot-headed antics and nasal voice used to play temperamental Ronnie Kray comes too close to a gangster caricature for audiences to take seriously.
It's plain representation of the East End criminal world means it is far from London's answer to 'Goodfellas', luckily the tragic Reggie and Frances (Emily Browning) romance at the heart of the narrative provides at least some substance.
