Review of Legend (1985) by Adam K — 24 Jun 2009
As with most early Ridley Scott films, the atmosphere is the biggest star here. Magic is in the air (dandelion puffs make this apparent) and glitter and moonlight are everywhere. The story is rather simple-- perhaps too simple for a film of this length.
As for the acting, Tom Cruise is not yet TOM CRUISE, and is therefore watchable. Mia Sara, still very young, plays her innocent yet mischievous role well. David Bennent adds some magic to the film. But when Tim Curry makes his entrance as the Lord of Darkness 3/4 of the way into the film, your eyes will be riveted on him.
Performed with an equal mix of molten sexuality and pure, slimy evil, Darkness makes this film worth the watching, even if boredom sets in during the earlier scenes.
