Not much as far as character development, but this is a very rich story and a grim fairy tale. The style was unique, and some times a little silly, but it all works well together.
I'm very surprised there hasn't been a sequel to this film yet, but I'm sure one day there will be. Tom Cruise and Mia Sara did alright, but it wasn't much of an acting challenge with their characters. Tim Curry plays the lord of darkness brilliantly. All the supporting characters provided great comic relief. Solid fantasy film!
