Review of Legend (1985) by Evan B — 02 Jan 2011
My memories of this film come from me having watched my DVD of the director's cut to death back when I was younger. Sad that it is not remembered that well, to the point that on DVDempire I have to scroll acouple of pages and do the same here on RT.
LEGEND's main hinderance is that it was cut almost in half when it came to the US. While the fact the film tried for a classical fairy tail a la BROTHERS GRIMM could be a defense for this, the director's cut had alot of good bits which helped make up for the "ok" bits which the US version focused on too much.
Great make up, ok plot, and great classical and synth scores (the Tangerine Dream score isn't so bad once heard by itself), the only thing missing form this film is more footage of the Lord of Darkness.
Though one has to wonder - what is the story with the additional footage from the US. The story behind that is still a mystery to me.
